T-Shirt Facts
T-Shirt / Memory Quilt Facts You Should Know
- Always Pre-Wash! Shirts that are not pre-washed may run or bleed unwanted colors onto other parts of your quilt.
- Be sure all shirts are clean, and free of smoke and pet hair.
- Choose shirts that have sentimental value.
- Don't overlook your sweatshirts, these can also be incorporated.
- PLEASE do not cut your shirts in preparation for the quilt making.
- Look at both sides of the shirt - some shirts have great graphics on both sides; consider using both sides (2 quilt squares). If you only want to use one side, please specify front or back, or I will use my best judgment for a beautiful layout.
- To indicate which side of a shirt to use, you can either pin a note to the shirt, or an easier way is to bundle the shirts together by which side you would like used and put them in separate bags, one for "front side only", "back only" or "both sides."
- You can also combine 2 to 4 small pocket logos or multiple shirts to make up a square. If necessary the orientation of the block can be changed (vertical vs. horizontal) to accommodate the size of the logo. This adds character to the finished product.
- Think of themes - Graduation, Sports, Military Days, Sorority/Fraternity Memories, Favorite Vacation Spots, Marathon Accomplishments, Memory Quilts, etc choose shirts to fit your theme.
- Stained or marred shirts sometimes have special memories attached to them. Embrace those imperfections to remember the moment.
- Your order will be carefully reviewed and confirmed by e-mail or phone. I will email you an invoice showing the deposit paid and balance due. Allow $20.00 for shipping and handling to the lower 48 states.
- Your shirts will be carefully stabilized (with a lightweight interfacing that does not add weight or make the quilt stiff) and accurately cut to size.
- I will arrange your shirts with attention to color and design, and then send you a picture for your review.
- I use quality materials and workmanship to construct a quilt top. 100% Cotton fabric is used for the sashing, border, backing and binding in solid colors that will compliment your shirts. You may indicate your color choices.
- If you would like to substitute a novelty print for the backing or any of the other sections of the quilt you can contact me and I will let you know how much fabric you will need to purchase.
- The top will be machine quilted with your choice of quilting design or many customers will leave it up to me. I have many to choose from to compliment the theme of the quilt.
- Pricing includes a Traditional custom layout, with sashing between shirts and a 4" border, all labor and materials- including fabric for the sashing, borders, backing, batting and binding-machine quilting and machine binding. All you need to do is send your T-Shirts and I will turn them into a beautiful quilt! Please note other custom layouts are available upon request and require additional materials fees.
- I complete each custom T-Shirt quilt in the order it is received. My average turnaround time is 4-6 weeks on consignment quilts. This can vary with volume and seasonal demands. If you need your quilt for a special date please let me know and I will see what I can do.
